Holiday Signing: Ann Niedringhaus All Entangled: Poems

"Writing about things she says she can't write about, Ann Niedringhaus opens up a world for readers who will be thankful that someone else has experienced their sorrows and joys. These poems are filled with surprises; they are clear, direct, and unusually honest. Her voice is calm and searching, whether describing family, travel, mortality, the happiness and fears of raising daughters with disabilities, or the horrifying zoo the Nazis set up outside Buchenwald. Niedringhaus says she makes poems out of "everything given her." Her poems are set in Namibia, El Salvador, New Jersey, Minnesota, and Chicago; at a rodeo; and above Bedford Avenue, Brooklyn. She is willing to look long and deep. And she listens -- to stories of the past, voices of the poets, and the voice inside her. We are blessed by her insights, by the world she gifts us, by the way we are 'all entangled' in the story and dance of life and death and life again."--Sharon Chmielarz
