About the Author

Donald L. Janssen, DVM, Diplomate, ACZM served San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance in various leadership roles from 1985 until his retirement as corporate director of animal health in 2016. Janssen led a team of veterinarians, nutritionists, technicians, and hospital keepers seeing to the health and well-being of more than 7,000 animals at the San Diego Zoo and the Safari Park. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Emil P. Dolensek Award in 2009 and the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017 from the American Association of Zoo Veterinarians.
