Description

Everyone knows that there is gold at the end of the rainbow. Few decide that it is a good idea to steal it.

Gilly Horner's new children's tale warns readers about becoming greedy. The many inhabitants of the magical land of Big Island teach children lessons about staying true to themselves and helping others. It is a book that will make children giggle, and it will also make them think.

The four mischievous hedgehogs-Eenie, Meenie, Miney, and Mo-live on the island with all their many friends. They have lots of fun and many mischievous adventures. The little folk are all the birds and animals, and they live in harmony with the humans. Dooley Badger is a special friend of the hedgehogs.

The badgers work as bankers looking after the goodies that the little folk take to them to look after. All they ask for in return is that they keep a little for themselves.

Lilly Lapwing and Jenny Wren make special poultices with a secret lotion. They swoop down and apply one to any ache or pain that the little folk have, even if it is on their nose end The poultices eventually fall off- they cannot be pulled off, which sometimes annoys the little folk.

The island also has a Wishing Wizard who is a bit dizzy and does not always get things right. The wizard grants a wish to one of the little folk, and that is when harmony on the island is disrupted. Some of the badgers get too greedy. The other animals uncover a sinister plot the badgers have cooked up. They're going to steal the gold at the end of the rainbow

Eenie, Meenie, Miney, and Mo team up with a coterie of animal friends to stop the badgers. In addition to the hedgehogs, children will meet Sergeant Squirrel and the Squirrel Squad, Maximus Mole, Merrymouse Doormouse, Oscar the Otter, Drake the Duck, Rasta the Rabbit, Heath the Hare, Serena Swan, and others in this enchanting adventure.

About the Author

Gilly Horner grew up in Nidderdale, one of the Yorkshire Dales in the United Kingdom. She got to know the hedgehogs, squirrels, and other woodland creatures very well, and she uses her childhood experiences as inspiration for Eenie, Meenie, Miney, and Mo. Gilly now lives with her husband and their dog, Dooley, in Pudsey, West Yorkshire. She has written one previous book and is hard at work writing more adventures set on Big Island. She involves children wherever she can in her writing. She listens to their ideas and incorporates these wherever possible. She wishes to encourage children both in reading, and possibly writing their own stories-and make it fun so to do.
