Minnesota Historical Society Presents: Minnesota’s Black Community in the 21st Century
Join the MHS for a virtual publication celebration of "Minnesota's Black Community in the 21st Century" featuring Anthony Scott, Dr. Chauda L. Scott and Dr. Charles Crutchfield III. We are honored to have Al McFarlane, founder and editor of Insight News and host of Conversations with Al McFarlane as our special host!
While African Americans represent just five percent of Minnesota's total population today, the state has many successful African Americans, creative and influential residents who have left and continue to make their mark on a wide range of professional and vocational activities. This book honors those people.
The Black Community of Minnesota in the 21st Century highlights African American people and organizations that are helping to build a better Minnesota. Continuing the tradition established by pioneering books published by Walter R. Scott Sr. in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, the Minnesota Black Community Project highlights the contributions of contemporary black Minnesotans in the fields of the arts, the beauty and fashion, community service, education, entertainment, finance, government, work, law enforcement, media and communications, medicine and health care, religion, social services, sports, science and technology, and more.
"Minnesota's black community in the 21st century continues to document black excellence by highlighting successful contemporary African Americans who are engaged in a wide range of trades and professions. The book's brief biographies and photos capture how nothing else can celebrate the current generation of Minnesota's African-American community. Along with Walter Scott's legacy, we have been blessed with a panoramic vision of the pride, dignity, and constant advancement of an indomitable people. To experience this vision is to be inspired and full of pride and hope for our future. Enjoy the books, see the vision and be thankful.
