Staff Reviews

Cog is a boy who is actually a robot, and the person who made him is like his mother. After an accident, Cog ends up at the lab he was created at and realizes that they're making him aweapon. He escapes the corporation in search of the caregiver scientist, along with a robot car, a Trash Bot, a robot dog named Proto, and another robot weapon named Ada. An action packed story for middle grade readers. Great for reading out loud and exciting enough that kids age 8+ get sucked in and need to know what's going to happen next. This has action, cool characters, robots, a lot of humor, and I think it's the right one for the kid that has a hard time enjoying reading.

Fall 2019 Kids Indie Next List

“Since its creation date some months before, android Cog, designed for realistic human cognition, has lived happily with Gina in a house in the suburbs. When a misunderstanding sends Cog to a new ‘home’ at the headquarters of the tech firm that funded its creation, Cog makes friends with a talking car, a trash-bot, a robo-dog, and a sibling. Cog quickly gets to the heart of artificial intelligence, morality, and a road-trip adventure. This will engage young readers at once and inspire them to question assumptions about appearances, the law, and family.”
